Brand Debuts and Trade Fair Comebacks in the GDS Urban Areas

GDS International Event for Shoes & AccessoriesDesigual showcases its first shoe collection at GDS. Lumberjack and Flip Flop celebrate their come-back after several seasons’ absence. Newcomers Ambitious, Firetrap, Gas Footwear, Boombuz, Cristófoli, Nopulse along with Wenger-Footwear, Wolf, O-Three and Natural World all present exciting collections to the GDS audience for the first time.

The Urban Areas with their various lifestyle worlds Urban Authentic, Urban Fresh and Urban Active offer many different exhibitors a suitable, authentic setting tailored to their varied needs. While alike in conceptual terms, the areas are visually differentiated from each other thanks to individual stand designs. This means buyers in the Urban Areas can quickly and easily find everything Young Fashion Footwear has to offer: sportswear, street fashion, denim brands and, in the special Design Attack area, also total newcomers and young designers. This differentiated segmentation attracts new exhibitors to GDS while also convincing established brands to return to the fair. Some of these labels are presented in greater detail below.

Lumberjack – A Touch of Adventure in the City

Founded in the 1980s this brand quickly became synonymous with comfortable shoes made of robust materials. Just the thing for an active lifestyle in tune with nature and the outdoor world. The classic deck shoe and the "Giallone", the yellow suede desert boot with its typical brown appliqué on the leg, are some of Lumberjack’s all-time favourites. Alongside classic styles the label also demonstrates how to use sneakers, thongs and sandals to effortlessly bring the outdoor theme into urban living. At the forefront in the 2012 Spring/Summer collection are lightweight, soft materials like cotton-linen and suede that are durable and tough to survive every city adventure. Discreet washes and colouring also enhance the look here. A highlight for every stylish shoe cupboard are sneakers in an authentic dirty finish.

Flip Flop – Colourful Voyages of Adventure

With its new collection this label takes off on an adventurous style voyage through Nepal. The colour range of the coming summer is inspired by the dark turquoise of Mount Everest, the pinkish red of goji berries, the orange of the typical monks’ robes and the blue of the Nepalese sky. Just like the brand’s textile lines the shoe styles also toy with coloured beads and leather appliqués with authentic style. New in the shoe collection are strappy sandals with wooden soles and colourful bast rope wedges. A soft foot-bed provides the necessary wear comfort here. Just like in any other season Flip Flop surprises us with innovations on the original Flip Flop designed in 1998, now long since become a true classic. This time it comes in new neon colours and with wild animal prints.

Gas Footwear – Italian Style

With Hero, Glamour, Casual and Sneakers this Italian label will be presenting itself for the first time at GDS bringing with it no less than a four-part collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Hero focuses on unusual and innovative shapes. The cutback style, for instance, inspired by the Australian surfer look has a thick sole at the front that tapers towards the back. Risky…but stylish! Glamour scores points and not just with evergreen classics indispensable in every shoe cupboard – like desert and work boots as well as the classic Derbys – but also with city styles with clean-cut shapes. Whether flat, casual and suitable for clubbing, worn with jeans or sexy high heels – with these shoes you cut a fine figure on every occasion and in every outfit. While the casual line focuses on colourful flats and sporty rope wedges, sneakers feature styles that combine both comfort and functionality.

Boombuz – 100% Bio-Degradable

Shopping without regrets because with newcomer Boombuz environmental protection comes included in the product. The colourful thong sandals in plastic are produced pollutant-free. Natural materials and synthetics – do these mix? Yes they do. The styles are made of natural plastics with straps made of organic fibres making eco-damaging adhesive unnecessary. The shoes are 100% bio-degradable. Their ergonomically produced foot-bed also ensures pleasant wear comfort even when worn for long periods . Style and sustainability rolled into one for fashionistas and fashionists.

Cristófoli – South American Temperament

Bringing us Brazilian flair at GDS is new exhibitor Cristófoli – with ballet flats and flat sandals, high-heeled sandals and peep-toes. The Spring/Summer collection for 2012 is inspired by the city on Sugar Loaf Mountain – Rio de Janeiro. The boulevards along the Copacabana, the famous Lapa Arches and other trademarks of this metropolis served as inspiration providing themes for the 12 different lines in the collection – one that is as colourful as Rio itself. It includes all colour tones of the typical carioca summer as well as nude tones and pastels. The styles are all very feminine and the use of flowers, rhinestone and bow appliqués characterise the looks at Cristófoli displaying a loving attention to detail.

Desigual – The First Shoe Collection – Colourful and Cheeky

Premiere: The Spanish fashion label is extending its range with the market launch of its own new shoe line as part of its 2012 summer collection. Desigual’s typical colourful collection comprises styles for every occasion and every type of woman. These include sandals, clogs, ballerinas, sneakers, high heels and wedges. The design is as flamboyant as the textile collection. At times the shoe styles are inspired by Desigual’s characteristic creative prints and at others they feature colourful patterns that echo henna tattoos or toy with rhinestone appliqués. The colour scheme here ranges from very warm colours like fuchsia, orange or bright red through to cooler tones like emerald green and sky blue.

Wenger Footwear – Combining Outdoor and Lifestyle

Known until now for original Swiss penknives, watches and leisure rucksacks this traditional Swiss brand now for the first time brings a trendy outdoor shoe collection for men and women onto the German market and will therefore be found amongst the new exhibitors at GDS. The shoes fill the gap between casual leather shoes and real sports shoes. The collection comprises shoes, sandals, thongs, ¾ shoes through to lightweight walking shoes. With materials here they focus on leather and highly developed technical synthetic fibres.
