Delhi - Your Gateway to the Fastest Growing Footwear Industry

APLF in association with IFCOMA has launched "Footwear Materials Manufacturing & Technology Fair (fMM&T) in New Delhi, India from May 8 -10, 2009. With a huge population and the world's 4th largest economy by GDP (in purchasing power parity terms), a large domestic market is waiting to be tapped. Economic growth has meant greater disposable incomes. It is estimated that today 2.8 % of the population are able to spend over USD 30,000 a year on conspicuous consumption. That may not look so huge at first glance, but this is 2.8% of one billion plus. India's huge USD 5 billion footwear market is growing at around 10% a year.

Position of Delhi in India
The annual export value of the leather industry for 2007 was estimated at USD 2 billion. A look at the map of India illustrates the strategic positioning of this new fair. New Delhi is, not only the capital of the nation but is, at the heart of Northern India where sizable footwear production centres are located but also, within easy reach from Central, East and West of India. Export figures show that of the total exports from India, Northern India alone exports 55% of all leather footwear, 50% of non-leather footwear and 60% of all leather garments. fMM&T has been endorsed by the Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA) and the CLE (Council for Leather Exports) whose objectives are to promote interaction among members for development of products of international quality and standards, in order to promote the growth of the Indian footwear component industry in the domestic as well as export markets.

fMM&T, an initiative by APLF, is a venture that simply makes good entrepreneurial sense for exhibitors and buyers alike. The footwear market is growing at a very fast rate and Indian manufacturers need to meet regularly with their international suppliers to keep abreast of the latest technological innovations, market intelligence, fashion trends and, yes, exchange industry information. Mr. M Garg, National Coordinator - IFCOMA, confirms that already over 50 members of IFCOMA have agreed to their participation at fMM&T. There will also be exhibitor delegations from Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Italy, Pakistan and Taiwan in particular. The event will span the full manufacturing spectrum and will include suppliers of leather and materials, components, threads and adhesives, sophisticated shoe making assembly line machinery and CAD/CAM software.

fMM&T is first and foremost for the shoe making industry but other finished goods sectors will benefit too. The Saddlery and Harness sector, for example, which represents 3% of the Indian exports of leather products is largely based in Northern India.Visitors targeted include manufacturers of footwear, leather / non-leather garments, handbags, leather goods and travelware. Importers and distributors of leather and synthetic material components and accessories, designers, brand owners and product developers. The objective in bringing this event to India is to position fMM&T as a catalyst and support to India's burgeoning footwear and associated industries.
