KUHBA LIBRE: Design Attack in a Fresh Alpine Style

The 6th edition of Design Attack blends the idyll of the Alpine landscape with the refreshing ingredients of a trendy cocktail staging this unusual cross-over in Hall 13 of the GDS/GLS under the ‘Kuhba Libre’ motto. The international platform for both creative young designers and already established labels will be showcasing the trends for the 2007/08 Autumn/Winter season and the immediate ranges for the coming summer. 120 Design Attack exhibitors will be presenting new and original trends in street fashion. Alongside shoes and bags it is especially urban wear, lingerie, jewellery as well as other accessories and lifestyle products that will be centre stage here.

ImageAlternative materials along with new colours and finishes will determine the styles of these young, non-conformist collections. GLS exhibitors will be presenting their current leather ware collections in compact form as they will also be incorporated into the Design Attack area.

Design Attack has successfully established itself within the themed universe of the Young Fashion segment as a section in its own right: exhibitors have already registered from Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal with labels like Airwalk, AppePazza, Beast, Ben-Simon, Bicolli, erstIch, Fogg, Grinders Grandstand, Gundi Blind, Heartwear, Jacatao, Jiboia, Karin van Noort, Komodo, Keds, Lola Cruz, Losgelöst, Monta, Naketano, null:zwo:elf, Seasurfer, Red Wing, Rocket Dog, Sperry Top-Sider, Seasurfer, Uad Medani, verfilzt & zugenäht, Wolpertinger, Yuta Pasch, Zippo Bags and many more.

“As an information and communication platform Design Attack offers international trade visitors many new impulses for their young trendy ranges. For up-and-coming young designers this area is an ideal presentation platform enabling them to forge important business contacts,” said Kirstin Deutelmoser, Project Manager at GDS.

Hall Design
ImageThe trade fair stands will be styled as mountain huts with a cool black and white cowhide design, thereby contributing to the Alpine feel and providing an effective setting for the young collections. Stretching into the background behind the Alpine lodges is an idyllic, panoramic mountain landscape with bright, white snow-capped mountains. Visitors’ sporting spirit will be aroused by a large cable car. A rustic, Alpine-hut style restaurant will invite visitors to raise their glasses with Bavarian titbits and speciality beers. And the world-famous trend cocktail Cuba Libre will be served by a sponsor here at the Ice Bar, very much in tune with the motto chosen for the segment.

Event Programme
Serving as the catwalk for the refreshing, off-beat Kuhba Libre shows will be an ice rink surrounded by illuminated blocks of ice. Both models and ice skaters will parade in the spotlight here. A Bavarian band will provide great musical atmosphere at this event area during Happy Hours. On the Saturday of the fair the big party event in Hall 2 will pick up on the main idea behind the Kuhba Libre concept. DJ sounds from Jiri Katter and his team will invite guests to celebrate and relax in the bars and chill-out zones.

Labels to Watch
ImageMystic Couture is the name of the new collection from the ‘Beast’ label: unusual print motifs like lucky dragons with Swarovski crystals and metallic nail heads adorn quality finish canvas bags plus vintage couture.

With a touch of humour, the ‘Bicolli’ brand presents a nostalgic, nationalcostume collection combined with military elements. Laughing children’s faces from the 1940s, stag motifs, gingham checks and velvet trims give shirts, jackets, jeans, caps and bags a cheeky, original note. www.bicolli.de

For the first time now, the Berlin label ‘ErstIch’ is introducing its new streetwear product line with bags and accessories that are made of highquality, hand-finished leather with many functional options: 100% Made in Germany. www.erst-ich.de

Also convincing us with its craftsmanship and quality is the Spanish brand ‘Fogg’. Its range includes shoes, bags and other accessories plus clothing right through to interior design items. Materials like silk, organza, georgette and sari appliqués add a new slant to oriental style here. www.fogg.es

Gundi Blind’ designs and produces unconventional, costumes from saris to dirndls, handmade in the Indian Himalayas. In particular, her accessories – like cowhide bags, sterling-silver finished belts, patched mini-skirts in vintage tapestry fabric plus jewellery featuring meditative symbols – are sold to renowned stores in places like Los Angeles. The VIP customers of her creative designs include Donna Karan and Sting. www.gundiblind.com

The fashion and sportswear label ‘Heartwear’ has a philosophy that comes from the heart: the basics collection consisting of sporty hoodies, zip-up jackets, trendy hot-pants plus feminine dresses and skirts captivates us with its attention to detail reflected in the design, quality and finish. www.heartwear-fashion.de

The German label ‘Losgelöst’ stands for an experimental interplay of colour, shapes, and fabrics. Imagination, handicrafts and special finish give the alternative natural materials used here (like tree bark) their special look. The product range includes bags and accessories in leather and woollen felt. www.losgeloest.com

One billion people play street soccer worldwide. Inspired by this sport and lifestyle trend, passionate street soccer players founded the Dutch brand ‘Monta – Emperors of Honour’ in 1999. The new collection comprises both street soccer wear and shoes and patented footballs made of denim. Footballing star Edgar Davids is currently featured in the brand’s global advertising campaign. www.montasoccer.com

The Bavarian label ‘Wolpertinger’ combines classic streetwear elements with high-end materials and lasered animal skins specially imported from Italy along with leather featuring motifs from comics and art classics. For the first time, this season will also see it launching exclusive one-off accessories on the market: Street & Luxury. The shoes are a reflection of the clothing collection and are very high quality. www.wolpertingerclothing.com
