14 exhibitors from Turkey showcase their all-new shoe fashion at GDS

Turkish shoe and leather fashion suppliers captivate our imagination with highest quality, finest materials and an unerring feel for trends.14 exhibitors from Turkey showcase their all-new shoe and leather fashions at GDS from 15 to 17 September 2006 in Düsseldorf.

Shoes & Fashion
The previous summer seasons have been very colourful ones for shoe and leather fashion but Spring/Summer 2007 will see things calming down on the colour front – and this is a trend also endorsed by the suppliers of Turkish shoe and leather fashion. They, too, will be following the latest women’s and men’s wear trends towards a greater focus on nature and naturalness. Surfaces, patterns and arrangements now move to the fore while decorative elements like buckles, lacing and embroidery are sparingly used. The touch and feel of materials is now gaining importance.

ImageFor men, a distinction is made here between classic shoes that will look more slender next spring and summer and leisure footwear, especially moccasins, espadrille-look mules and basketball boot styles. Men’s shoes come in naturals and brown tones as well as white and, of course, in classic black.

GDS from 15 to 17 September will see 14 highly qualified exhibitors from Turkey present their brand new ideas for Spring/Summer 2007 alongside pronto-moda lines for next Autumn/Winter 2006/2007.

Fashion & Quality
“Quality counts“ is the motto of the Turkish shoe and leather industry. High-quality raw materials are converted into creative and trendy styles using traditional craftsmanship plus the latest technologies. As the following examples show:

The highest fashion demands are met by Ferudun Kundura (label Fertini). Manager Nadi Can is confident: “Our shoes are highly fashionable, we work with plenty of colour. I think our shoes are unique around the globe.” Sportiness and elegance are the hallmarks of Eser Ayakkabicilik with its Ricardo Colli Label. These men’s shoes also demonstrate fashion courage and are real eye-catchers. Etor Footwear with its Etor label is also fully in sync with the latest trends. The variety of different shoe styles is enormous

Promotion & Services
The ITKIB (Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association) represents under one roof, so to speak, about 20,000 firms from the leather, leather production, textile and apparel, carpet and home textiles sectors. The Association supports its members with an extensive range of services such as advertising, sales promotion and PR.

Turkish operations are very flexible. Complying with customers’ special requests is taken for granted by most shoe producers. Even today, many shoes are still made by hand in Turkey thereby making it possible to make a very individual fashion statement. At the other end of the spectrum, the country boasts state-of-the-art production facilities with very high technical standards.

Aims & Visions
The “mission statement” of the Turkish shoe and leather fashion suppliers for the next few years is clear: their labels are to be made even more popular. This is also the aim of the “Turquality“ (acronym consisting of “Turkish“ and “quality“) project. “Turquality“ was launched in 2004 and pursues two main aims: firstly, to build a positive image amongst consumers for products that have the potential to develop into a brand, and, secondly, to create a system encompassing all processes of manufacturing, marketing, sales and services for all product groups and geared to give Turkey a competitive edge over other countries.

“Turquality“ is the first project of its kind in the world that is supported by the state. About 100 companies and designers, including Hussein Chalayan and Dice Kayek, have now been selected to bear this logo based on strict criteria such as production conditions, logistics, collection development, brand management, sales, services etc. The vision for the next few years is to create 10 world-famous brands in 10 years.
